The boys are playing a game in the backyard which involves all of them getting hit by tennis balls repeatedly. When this happens, they almost always yell “Oh, my nuts!” whether or not there was a direct hit on the package.

I finally went out there and told them that this wasn’t something the neighbors probably wanted to hear all afternoon, and I thought the matter was settled.

However, now they’re out there yelling “Oh, my testicles!” which, while making me laugh incredibly hard, is probably at about the same level annoying-the-neighbor-wise.

This is such a powerful message for GLBT kids. I love Dan Savage for starting the It Gets Better Project.

If you’re gay or lesbian or bi or trans and you’ve ever read about a kid like Billy Lucas and thought, “Fuck, I wish I could’ve told him that it gets better,” this is your chance. We can’t help Billy, but there are lots of other Billys out there—other despairing LGBT kids who are being bullied and harassed, kids who don’t think they have a future—and we can help them.

They need to know that it gets better. Submit a video. Give them hope.

I saw someone wearing a great hat a month or two ago, but she was way on the other side of a chain link fence so I couldn’t ask her where she got it. Now I’m turning to you guys! Does this hat look familiar? It was made of canvas and kind of floppy. Soft-looking beige canvas, black trim, thick rolled edge that looked like it was a little bit weighted.

UPDATE: I never found this hat. However, I’ve fallen in love with the Sun N Sand Surf’s Up hat. I got mine here (not an affil. link) which seemed like the best deal. I have it in brown (love!), black, khaki (more of a pale yellow), and turquoise.

It is the cutest of all the sports my kids have played.

I get a frillion emails every day asking me to post about this or that on my blog. And you know what? For over a year I’ve been filtering them all into the trash and don’t even bother to read them anymore.

This is how you do it. I’m about to post a Toyota ad video here. I found it serendipitously and it made me laugh my ass off.

Brilliant.

It took getting thrown out of the theater to find out…

The other day for some reason I remembered the beat-up apartment I lived in when I lived in LA. At first I couldn’t even remember the city, but after googling ‘towns near Venice, CA’ I remembered it was Mar Vista. (And then I felt really old.)

Then I remembered it was right near the Mar Vista Bowl, so I googled that, switched to Street View, and drove over to my old place. Amazing! 10 years ago I would have just been left with a nagging question about where this place was.

Wow, the place is really fancy looking now. Flowers, a metal gate, new shingles… It looks nothing like when I lived there. The window in the front was mine, and right under that was where this crazy woman would rev her Camaro from 6-6:30 every morning. It was awesome.
