Olympics to-the-death!

February 18, 2010

Two years ago we were watching the Summer Olympics and Fencing came on. Henry and Ed (then about 5) were really excited until they learned that it wasn’t a fight to the death kind of competition. Oh, how we laughed.

So you’d think I wouldn’t have been surprised last night when Biathalon came on. You know Biathalon, the ski-SHOOT-ski-SHOOT sport?

I came into the room just as Craig was explaining to the boys that it wasn’t a shoot-out. You had to shoot at the targets, not the other competitors.

I laughed so hard I fell on the ground and could hardly breathe, but you know, NBC should consider it for next time. The ratings would be fantastic.

Thank you Palo Alto Utilities!

This morning just before 8 there was a tragic plane crash in the city next to ours. As it went down, the plane took out some power lines which fed a huge area and 28,000 of us were suddenly without electricity.

Palo Alto Utilities worked all day to get power restored and right before 6 tonight – as I was lighting candles and figuring out what I could cook in the dark and reassuring the kids that it wasn’t going to be scary – the lights came back on!

Thanks to everyone who worked hard in difficult circumstances to make this happen. Our family really appreciates it!

I printed out some papers for Charlie (5) to color on and give out to his friends for Valentine’s Day. I left the room when he first got started, and when I returned I couldn’t stop laughing.

Not exactly in the spirit of Valentine’s Day, but at least they’re smiling.

delurk6.jpgTo mark the end of Delurking Week, I did the drawing for the delurked winner of the book “Tears of a Giraffe.” It is late afternoon here, but I need some coffee or something since I had a really hard time with the scissors.

After the wound coagulated, I drew the name of the winner. I won’t keep you in suspense any longer, it is:
