Caution Dumbasses: Hot Coffee is Hot

Shhh, but yesterday I was assembling 3 Razor Scooter Jrs, and among the standard “this toy will kill your child” warning labels I noticed one that stood out and made me want to weep for the world.

Prominently placed on the front of the scooter is “WARNING: THIS PRODUCT MOVES WHEN USED.”

Seriously? The word “scooter” in the name of the toy wasn’t enough for the lawyers? When we as a society devolve into bubble-wrapped human beings incapable of independent thought or decisive action, we will have deserved it.

    OMG, that’s funny.

It’s really stupid that the lawyers think disclaimers like that need to be put on products. Or that our system might actually allow someone to sue if it’s not there.

I think that comes close to topping the “Do not fold when child is inside” that is on strollers.

When will we see on fast food cups: warning: contents may be wet.

Yes, the scooter has wheels and may not move. Yeah right. I too got my son a scooter for christmas. Sssshhh!

Well I have a friend who has a sign on his fridge that says “Never forget that half the people in the world are less intelligent than the average person” so maybe that explains those kind of warning labels?

I got a hairdryer for Christmas one year and one of the warnings in the instruction pack said, “Do not use while sleeping.”

    Ummm…

    Well, ok.

I mean really, how is that even possible?

How funny! But if they did not put the warning on there, some stupid moron would sue the company when their kid got hurt.

Wow. That’s so helpful. *rolls eyes*

Oh that’s awesome, I love those warnings they always give me a giggle; however, I do believe it would simply be natural selection at work if we refrained from those lovely labels.

Caution: Ice cream is cold. Concrete is hard. Balls are bouncy.

    Holy shit no way!*****

I think that is just as necessary as the warning on a chainsaw that reads “do not stop blade with fingers or GENITALS.”

All Adither’s comment cracked me up! I saw a commercial for a Gymnast Barbie once and at the bottom of the screen it said “movement simulated, doll does not move on it’s own”. Really? Shocking!

I think a lot of these warnings exist so that people can’t sue the companies. I think it’s a good thing because they give us smart people a giggle and it keeps the morons from suing the company by doing something they should know better than to do!

Do they put warnings on roses? You know, they have thorns and thorns can prick you!

these warnings are not for the majority of us. they are for the small few who are sue happy and look for anything without a warning. this is not the stupid lawyers or the stupid companies, they are just trying to cover there ass.

We really do need less warnings and more natural selection. I wrote a post a few months ago about the warning I read on a package of diaper pins.

Thank the American legal system, yes, the lawyers, for such obvious labels. Sad commentary, no?

I (partially) disagree with Nola. Yes it is a sad commentary. And yes you can blame lawyers for the lawsuits that these types of incidents bring up, but it is the fact that there are people out there that actually need to be warned about such things that is the most pathetic part of this.

My favorite from the Michigan Law Wacky Warning Labels this year… “Caution: Safety goggles recommended.” This warning was found… ON A LETTER OPENER!

One of the first warnings (of three pages of them) for my new $5600 synthesizer was “Do not immerse in water while unit is plugged in”.

Too many parasite lawyers needing hosts.

Stop bitching – the labels are there because of people like you in the first place.

The famous coffee incident has more to the story that no one seems to know.

This particular McDonalds was serving their coffee as close to 212 degrees as they could. A Temperature way too hot to drink.

The reason they did this was because they wanted to sell coffee in multiple cups at a time for people to bring multiple cups back to their friends or co-workers — and the coffee would still be hot.

Numerous people got burned so the local town council told that McDonalds owner to lower the temperature to a more palatable temp. The McDonalds refused over and over again.

Then when this particular lady got 2nd degree burns, the town decided to help her in her suit.

So yes, coffee is hot, everyone knew this even the plaintive in this case. But greed led this store to sell coffee at nearly 212 degrees, and the store got burned for that choice.

Now you’ve heard the rest of the story.

It’s not that people are stupid it’s that most people don’t take responsibility for their own actions, and if they hurt themselves on something they’re not irresponsible, they’re victims of mislabeled equipment
