You may have noticed that I recently started adding video to this blog, and I’m having a great time with it! One of the services that has made it even more fun is Vimeo. They’re like YouTube but they don’t suck ass. It’s a great looking web site, intuitable and just all around ‘good-feeling’ interface, lots of features, and great support.
Don’t believe me? Yesterday I was lamenting one of the two things I don’t like about Vimeo and decided to contact them and see if there was a fix planned. Lo and behold, ‘support’ is an actual email address answered by a real person: dalas verdugo (of the always-lower-case verdugos).

Hey Dalas,
I love love love Vimeo, but the only thing which is still giving me trouble is that Vimeo videos do not show up in my blog feed while using Google Reader (and presumably other readers as well.)
Is there any way for you to change the embed code, or offer a different one that works in feed readers like GR?
Please :)
Thanks,
Erika
FOUR minutes later I get this:

It bugs me too. I hope we can get it resolved.

And I think, OK, I like that it bugs him, maybe I’ll see a fix in a month or so, and I move on with my life. But hey, look what I got in my email this morning:

I think we’ve fixed this.

And I tested it, and it works, and I’m blown away. Why can’t everything work like this?
If you want your Vimeo videos to show up in Google Reader on old blog posts, just go back to the site and grab the Embed code again and replace it in your blog post. Voila.

Remember I said there were two things I didn’t like about Vimeo? The other one is that it takes a very long time (like 2 hours) to convert your video after you upload it. It’s not a huge deal unless you’re impatient like me. They email you when your video is ready to embed, so you don’t have to wait around staring at a progress bar, but still… 2 hours is a long time.
BUT, they say they’re throwing new hardware at the problem in the next couple of weeks, and really for a free service that’s pretty good. (By the way, peeps at Vimeo: I’d pay for a pro version. And I can’t wait to see what cool features you have planned for that.)
