I love you, PunditMom.

OK, it’s not the Navy Pier, but it still looks good to me! It’s because he’s a giver.

SNORT!

Recall: Baby formula in Canada (Thanks Rhonda).

Oh, and just as an aside, I’ll award a special prize for anyone and everyone who can tell me why people act like asshats online. Are they jerks or have they recently read up on linkbait? I’m hard-pressed to find a satisfactory reason, so tell me what you think.

I think people are asshats online because they are cowardly. This medium is not face-to-face, and this is used as an excuse to remove one’s verbal filter. There is a tendency to forget that the voices on-screen originate from a real person, and not a machine. It eliminates, for some, the responsibility for participating in thoughtful, respectful interaction, even if a disagreement occurs, because the response to an abrasive comment is not immediate. It’s the “dump and run” phenomenon.

My theory is because they’re miserable in their real lives but are too weak to do anything about their crappy real lives. So they troll online and are idiots, and that makes them feel a bit better about their shitty, shitty existence.

I’m like no good at being controversial, so, linkbaiting would never work for me.

    I’ll try it here, anyway:

    *ahem*

    Target sucks!

How was that? Sure to start a firestorm, now.

Some people are jerks in real life and hide it, but have trouble hiding it online? Depends on the context.

Asshats online are probably asshats in real life but they probably feel a special power when online because it’s fairly anonymous. It’s a typical bully thing and bullies are ‘really brave’ when they’re not confronted which of course is harder for the receiver of the asshattedness to do when they’re online.

I have no idea why asshats are asshats, but I wanted to tell you thank you for putting the GRITs back in the feed!!!

I’m not sure, but I really like prizes. However, what I think is that they are because they can get away with it, and that’s a sad adolescent game for grown-up’s to be playing at, but not everyone want to be adult about things – sad.
