I guess it's OK to talk like this… but only if it's about boys

How come it is OK for someone to look at a group of boys being rowdy and declare they only want to have girls? If I looked at a bunch of girls playing My Little Pony and hurting each other’s feelings I wouldn’t assume that was the one moment that forever defined girlhood.

Hey there ‘boymom’! I guess I’m preaching to the choir ;)

You know, I get tired of hearing that crap, too. Boys and girls are different but BOTH can be difficult, as well as wonderful. I don’t know why people feel like they aren’t being rude and tactless when they say things like that. If someone made a similar type of remark about women, we’d hit the fucking roof and get our panties ALL twisted up.

“Oh, I could never stand to have a girl. All that silly simpering, whining, and hormones. Oh my!”

Something like that? It takes all my self-control not to rip my step-sister a new one when she makes yet another comment about “all that boy aggression!”

Hey, let’s just call it “energy” m’kay? He’s 4. Not exactly part of the Patriarchy one must rage against.

    Thank you!

I also really hate the fact that any boy misbehavior is “boys being boys”, but if my daughter follows her brother and behaves the same way, it’s looked at funny. Because we don’t expect much out of boys.

Having one of each, my experience is that they’re ALL different. And people who make those stupid generalizations are just stupid.

Flo — I hadn’t thought of it that way, but you’re right. It is all about the lowered expectations.
