I had a startling revelation in Target the other day. How sad is that?

Our Diaper Genie broke the other day, and not in a repairable way. First I checked my normally-reliable and favorite online stores, but Amazon would ship me a new one in a month (give me a break), and Drugstore.com wanted to overcharge me by $15, so off I went to Target.

I saw that they had the cheap boys summer clothes out already, so I picked through and bought all the 5Ts. (If you were looking for some the other day, I apologize for taking them all…) But you know what I noticed? 5T is the largest size available in the Target little kids department.

There are SO many things wrong with having to move to the regular boys department. First of all, those clothes are scary! Covered in camo and slogans full of attitude, and dare I say it “sass.”

In addition to the clothes presumably being more expensive over there (goodbye wonderful $3.99 shorts and Ts that last through 3 kids), it will mean that we’re one step closer to having big kids. I’m not sure I’m ready for this!

oh I hear ya! I am so not ready for my boys to be “big” yet either. The 4 year old is already giving me a lot of “sass”! Good Luck!

Isn’t it CRAZY??? What I hate the most though, for my size 6 girl(whose actually 4?!?!) is the way they try to dress them all as mini hookers. Its disgusting.

I know!! There is just something so sad about removing that T.

We are just on the edge of the 5T ourselves. I bought a pair of 5 shorts in the big kid section and paid 5 dollars more. I agree with the rude shirts, why do they do that?

I nearly cried when we moved on from 5T to the 4-7 boys section. That was one year ago. He can now wear most of the size 8’s in the 8-20 section. Lord have mercy.

One thing I have noticed though, is that you can find tees without the crappy sayings at stores like Kohls and Pennys. Target, Wal-Mart, K-mart…those all have the stupid sayings. Cheaper, obviously, but I usually ended up paying more and just buying a shirt with a name brand on it to stay away from the “Homework is for sissies!” type slogan shirts. Gah.

I am in the same position, with my 5 year old son. And I was JUST in there the other day looking at spring clothes. I feel your pain.

And by the way, I hope you didnt bother with getting another diaper genie. I had one with my son, but I soon realized that a garbage that I take out regularly is much cheaper, especially with 3 kids in 3 years!

mamalee… u’r so right! my diaper genie has been in the garage since my third was born.. that thing is just so pointless if you have multiple kids in diapers!

They also don’t make Valentine’s shirts in boys sizes – only in toddlers. So sad.

This is interesting because our Diaper Genie just broke a few days ago-right after I emptied it, my daughter picked it up and dropped it, and the lid snapped right off. Kinda flimsy, I think.

And speaking of not being ready, my oldest son is 10, taller than me, and wearing MENS size clothes. What happened to my BABY?? LOL

I hear you! We’re straddling the 5T-size 6 fence, and I mostly hate Target’s big boys clothes. The girls’ clothes are way worse though-the “sass” and subtly suggestively flirty messages start at around 18 months. Nice, huh?

Yeah, moving up a size is always sad. But I hear ya about those boys’ tees.

I hear you! I had the same realization in Target a couple weeks ago now that my son is on the cusp of the little boys/big boys department at Target. sigh… it goes so fast.

Half of me hates knowing it’s almost over, and the other half LOVES IT!

but of course, all the little clothes are FREAKING ADORABLE!

Ah well. I guess I have to wait until they pop some out.

I’ve always liked the Diaper Genie — even when I had 3 in diapers. I just got 2 DGs and emptied them twice a week.

But I would seriously rather debate circumcision than diaper-disposal methods. Now THERE’s a war waiting to happen!

I love Targets toddler section and you hit the nail on the head. My 6 year old is too big for the 5T but thinks the XS in the boys section are too big. He’s way too big for the t-shirts that he likes but what are you going to do. I’ve got a fashion don’t on my hands… Hey talking about sassy slogans…have you seen Target’s baby onesies…2am party at my crib, byob! Yikes :P
