Making "Terrorist Fist Jab" seem like a reasonable turn of phrase

I don’t usually get my panties in a bunch over stuff like this, but The New Yorker has crossed the line. This is reprehensible, revolting, and I hope they loose a shit-ton of subscribers over this cover.

I will say the same thing here that I have elsewhere:

Obviously, anyone who believes what is being portrayed on that cover believed it already; the cover will only reinforce an existing mind-set.

For those, backers of Obama for President or no, who know better it’s an opportunity to cry outrage, insult and belittlement on their (Mr & Mrs Obama) behalf, to what end, good or bad, I’ve no idea.

As the Obama’s have taken this and worse on the chin and moved on, I haven’t a need to cry foul for them; they have and will continue to rise above the fray and stay on target. Skin that thick doesn’t come cheap or easy and they have, unfortunately, earned it and wear it WELL.

The bigger picture, so to speak, of that cover isn’t limited to just our future President and First Lady; the implications of black families (black women particularly), muslims (male or female) and the horrificly unsubtle connection of all of the above to terrorism is breath-taking.

I was shocked it was put on the COVER! Doing that makes it more than “satire” as they claimed it was, IMO. Major agenda sh*t going at the New Yorker.

And I disagree that only those who believed it already will believe it. I think fence-riders who only read covers of magazines will see it and go, hmmmm, that doesn’t look good….

I am just thrilled I, as a 65-yearold, white women from California, have lived long enough to see this women and this man in the Whitehouse!!!!! In my store where I work, my customers and I give each other the jap all the time — we even jump up and own with joy when we talk about our next President! Every day he gets better and every day hope come tickling back!

I too think that it was in incredibly bad taste. He handled it well, though.

I have to agree with you, I was really shocked by the cover. Extremely poor taste. I guess the NY times got what they wanted though – free marketing and tons of attention for it.

I have some mixed feelings on this one. I loved charming drivers response. Anyone religiously reading the New Yorker probably understands how tragic a certain thought process can be. Obama equal fill in the blank. So do we play to the people who get it or play into the hands of the people who don’t?

yes, bad taste I suppose.

But yes, I get it too.

Disturbing all the way around.
