Seriously? Chris was worse than Sanjaya? Pony-hawk boy was not the worst? This is insane! I now think that every week he’s just going to come out, hum off-key, and end up in the finale. Lesson learned: never underestimate the power of pre-teen girls.

Pre-Teen girls and Howard Stern. He’s been having his followers vote for Sanjaya….just for the fun of it. I can’t stand it anymore! UGH!
Actually I think it’s Sanjaya’s sister jumping up and down int he audience that is keeping him there.
Just so you know, I have not been actively watching, and never voted, so it’s not really my fault even though my gender could be blamed primarily.
Sanjaya’s initial audition was really good. Since then he’s been below average at best. I’m not even talking American Idol average, I’m talking your average American at a karaoke bar.
I blame the votefortheworst group. They’re really ruining the show for me.
I just can’t watch anymore.

mamatulip: I am almost at that point. I couldn’t watch the initial “you’re going to hollywood” episodes this year, and I think that signals the beginning of the end for me…
I agree with Alex, it’s votefortheworst that’s doing it.
The only counterattack there is would be to encourage more people to call in and vote fo anyone other than Sanjaya.
Unfortunately, that show, although I love it, isn’t really worth the effort.
Agreed, I have watched every season and have voted a grand total of ONE time! It was such a pain — busy signal all the time — and I can’t even remember who I voted for…
I totally agree. If Sanjaya stays much longer, American Idol will be ruined. It is SO stupid. Chris Sligh wasn’t great but he could sing circles around Sanjaya.
Since Howard Stern seems to think he has the ability to manipulate the vote to Sanjaya to win, maybe we could all vote to get Stern off the radio!

I just blogged about American Idol and got some very interesting replies about Vote for the Worst and Howard Stern that these comments mention. I think it pretty much cleared up my confusion.

Also…my husband is sure it’s rigged. He 100% accurately predicts who gets cut each week.
I think it was the hairdo that kept him this time, he had to do something outrageous I think and that did it for all those under 20. I agree with Schmitty, it didn’t hurt that H.Stern had backed him. Course this is the reason I quit watching this show a long time ago, my favs never got to stay.
