OMG, he's like some sort of genius monkey child!

Many nights I get one or both of the older boys to set the table for dinner. Call me susie homemaker (do it, do it!) but I like it that they do that chore. Tonight however I decided I just wanted it done, if you know what I mean, so I was doing it myself.

I had just stuck a stack of kid plates on the corner of the table when Chip ran by. He stopped, swung his head around to look, grabbed the top plate and started setting the table.

I was flabbergasted! This really shows me how capable kids are. He’s only 22 months or so (I suck at math) yet he’s running around putting the dishes in the right places!

All I had to do was hand him items and tell him whose they were. So he put all the forks on, then he put out the napkins. In fact, the napkins are my favorite part. Take a look why:

Pre-crumpled and flight-tested. Awesome! He lost interest by the water cups, but hell, this kid’s got game! I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing! Those of you with more kids than I have won’t be surprised by this, but it sure took me by surprise and made my day!

Hey, I’m impressed! Could I perhaps borrow your 22 month old to teach my five year old how to set the table?? Or wait, could I please borrow YOU to teach me how to cook??–then we can work on setting the table!!

stayathomemotherdom: Note that Chip’s seat has a seatbelt! And they all like their ridiculously-expensive-but-worth-every-penny-because-they-are-comfortable-and-can’t-knock-them-over Stokke Kinderzeat chairs. I think that’s why they don’t get up. Well, and crazy-yelling-mommy doesn’t hurt either!

little miss: Wheeeeeeeeeeee! You’ll have to get Mr. Plain to teach you. He does all the cooking and grocery shopping. I cook HAMBURGERS on Friday night and that’s it! He’s a fabulous cook, and I have it good for sure.

The napkins are particularly well done, it’s true!
