One thing I love about my blog friends

November 6, 2006 13 Comments

Y’all make me feel like so much less of a crap mom!

The area I live in is type-A. Type-AAAA++++. All the kids do Gymboree, Music Together, French Singing, Mandarin Storytelling.. Those moms drive me out of my mind.

I love meeting new blog-folks every day because SO MANY OF YOU ARE CRAZY in ways that are totally compatible with my brand of insanity. What a relief!

Thank God for our little part of the blogosphere. And I’m particularly glad that I could make you feel like a better mom. Funny, I get that compliment a lot! ;-)

Yeah, I hate those moms too. We have yet to actually take and finish one of those classes. We signed Brute Force up for swimming lessons when he was around 2, and all he wanted to do was go up and down the steps into the pool-no singing Wheels on the Bus in the middle of the pool for him. Then we signed him up for gymnastics-and not just any toddler gymnastics, but the real thing, at a real gym (yes, I know, bad move). The first class the teacher all but tackled him because he was running towards the big, fun gym equipment, rather than the little puny parachute. Didn’t bode well for us. Given the fact that the class was also held at 9:30 on a Saturday morning, I think that the 3 classes we made it to were a pretty heroic effort for us.

So, long story short-we are very much the same kind of crazy as you.

    Mombat — Phew!

Flo — I’d love to respond to your comment, but unfortunately I must rush off to my child’s Gymboree class. Did I mention it is taught entirely in french? What, you don’t teach your children french? Well, to each their own. tisk tisk tisk.

    Jessica — smooches!

I got tired of running around apologizing for my kids.

We did this Music Together thing with both of them…God what a nightmare…my kids running around screaming and refusing to sit while the others were all passive and goody goody.

I have a friend who reeeeelly tries to keep up with the joneses and was doing ten gazillions RIGHT things to do….sign language, etc…always frowned at me…but she had ONE one kids to farm around and has no clue what two is like.

    I can’t wait.

I couldn’t agree more. I’m forever wondering where all the moms are like the ones in the blog world. I can’t deal with the über moms and their Mandarin storytelling crap (that’s funny as shit)

I remember joking that my 10-month old could recite the Greek alphabet, and some parents earnestly asking, “Really?” and then they got so pissed off when I said, “NO! KIDDING!”

I managed to find an elementary school that serves Jello shots at many of its fundraising events. Last year, at our Christmas Fair, we had HAMSTER RACING — kids bought tickets to bet on their favorite hamster. I mean, it`s gambling, and exploiting small animals — while the parents slurped Jello shots and cheered, too.

It`s so important to find a community of parents who share your values!

Izzy — only funny from a distance, I promise. These folks are deadly serious!

L — that sounds amazing! Might be worth a move up to the city. Hmmm….

    L. – Now that’s a school that has it’s priorities straight! Our idea of a fundraiser here is burnt hotdogs served in the cafeteria while the PTA president tells us how we have to redouble our fundraising efforts to keep paying for the school’s second copier.

    Sigh.

Of course the day after I posted that comment, I found out about their latest fund-raiser and it’s well, different.
