Our sweet dog

Mr. Plain and I got a dog when we moved in together. She was basically our practice-child and a huge part of our life. Last year when we were up here she was very sick. She had a couple of kinds of cancer and was on her way downhill. Our only goal for her at that point was to keep her alive until Thanksgiving so she could come up here and see her favorite place in the world one more time.

Amazingly she made it, and for that one week it was as if she was no longer sick. She ran up and down the hills, chased birds, ate turkey, played with the kids, and pestered us to throw tennis balls. She had a fantastic time. When we got home it was clear that she didn’t have much time left, and she died on December 21st.

Tonight we sprinkled her ashes under an oak tree at the top of the hill she loved to run on. You can see the edge of it in this picture we took of her on her last trip here. She was an absolutely amazing dog, and I’m happy that we’ll be able to visit her over the years. When we’re up here next year we’ll have another dog and it will all begin again. I love it.

Glad that puppy had that last romp last year and you guys celebrated her memory at her favorite place this year.

What a beautiful memory — what a beautiful life you and your dog gave each other. My favorite pet of all time was a border collie. I hope to have a chance to have another border collie when my son is older.

Awww…what sweet dog. It is great that you got to celebrate your memories of her.

We still have the ashes of my kitty.

Jessica — it turned out really well. My dad and stepmom were there too and they loved our dog as much as we did.

Damselfly — border collies are amazing dogs. That’s what our next one will be too. We just need to find a good breeder.

cc — it was very special, and I see you understand ;)
