They sent me this huge box of samples today! I had a really stressful end to my week (hence no post yesterday), and this was a really nice surprise treat.

The boys love it too, because we never buy any of this stuff. Hey, what do you know, turns out that Chip likes cookies. Kind of a party atmosphere around here this afternoon.

I’ve really been hoping that I could get some of my groceries online at Amazon, but so far I haven’t been all that impressed. I do the Amazon Prime thing, so I get “free” 2-day shipping which I love. But the selection of groceries doesn’t mesh with products we actually buy!

sobe.jpgHOWEVER, the day they start selling this stuff I’ll be all over it — the UPS guy and I will get even better acquainted!

The American Academy of Pediatrics says that “kids today” drink too much juice. It fills them up with empty calories and then they’re not hungry for real food.

But at our house the kids can drink as much juice as they want and everyone is happy! Well, not juice, but “juice” — and here’s how.

juice.jpgI start with a gallon pitcher, pour in 3 juice boxes, and top off with water. This way the whole pitcher only has a small amount of juice in it, and the kids can have all they want.

In fairness, I started doing this when my kids were … how old are they when they can start having juice? I no longer have a short term memory, but let’s say about 6 months? So they’re used to it and to them this is just what juice at home tastes like.

They have had real juice at school and friend’s houses. And when we have kids over I’ll give them all a juice box. When that happens it is like Mardi Gras! But for day-to-day, this is what they drink, and I get no complaints.

caprisun.jpgIf your kids are older and wiser, you can just switch over gradually. You know, sneaky-style! But whatever you do, don’t fall for this CapriSun crap. I saw an ad for it a few months ago and I was so excited! But then I went to read the ingredients.

It contains High Fructose Corn Syrup so this is just some sort of fruit-colored beverage! I guess they can use the word “Water” in the title because the product is clearly a liquid, but seriously folks, this is so misleading! If they’re going to make fruit punch, just call it that and get on with it. Sheesh!

…this is what they’d say:

“WE LOVE LAZYTOWN!!”

theo.jpgThis bear has been Mike’s companion since he was about 1. Quite by accident we left it in his crib for many months, and then it became clear that he wasn’t leaving any time soon.

Theo got “bominited” on the other day, and it is a really good thing that Theo has 2 brothers — I recommend this technique highly — so I was able to get him clean in record time. (Shhhhh, don’t tell my secret!)

In this picture Theo is watching Mike play outside. I like that he takes such an interest in the activities of his young charge. That’s what makes a good companion.

Theo has been there for Mike when there were nightmares to be dealt with, new situations to enter, long car trips, and he’s a real trouper! All hail Theo!
