Please let me give you money

Update: this contest is over.

So I’m one of 9 judges in a Mother of the Year contest where one of the prizes is $5,000. I would love nothing more than for the winner to be one of you lovely ladies reading this right now, so please, please, please enter so I can vote for people I know!

Is there a cause you hold dear to your heart? One of the nice things about this contest is that if you would rather donate the $5,000 you can do that instead.

In addition to the money, the grand prize winner gets a Flip digital video camera, any Mother’s Day gift of their choice up to $200, an award plaque, and a bouquet of flowers.

So. If you want to nominate yourself or someone you know, please do so by March 5, 2008. I REALLY REALLY REALLY want one of you to win this.

I have a boyfriend, a dog, and a cat. Does that count as mother?

Nominate your own mom and work a deal where she gives you a kickback for being such an awesome daughter ;)

I'm guesing being able to keep my son alive and relatively healthy for over 6 years now doesn't necessarily go above and beyond the call of Motherhood, does it?

Well, I am a mother of 6, I surpassed my mother as she had four of us. It has been a long pregnancy life for me, and I finally am at the end with my last beautiful baby boy. I have two girls 12& 11, four boys…8,7,5 & 4 months. Plus! guess the dad would count too:) We work together here sometimes its hard, but we really have great enjoyment watching them grow and learn. Being a mom is not only the best job in the world, but the most love one could ever imagine.

My niece, Michelle Baisey of Walkersville, MD is absolutely Mother of the Year material! Michelle got pregnant at 18 with twins! They were born premature and one of the twins, Cody, died due to complications. Troy, his brother, has had severe medical complications. Due to birth defects nobody thought he'd ever walk. He plays baseball! Due to his hearing and eyesight issues, everybody thought he'd need special schooling. He goes to public school. Additionally, Michelle finished her education and became a school teacher. Because Troy is not as advanced as other kids his age Michelle watches every movie before she lets him see it. She listens to every cassette before he does, and read every book. She takes him to therapy almost every night and is over $1M in debt to pay for the surgeries, etc. he's needed. She's a beautiful girl with an absolutely amazing son who wouldn't be half what he is without her. Troy played tee-ball at the White House the year before last. A reporter interviewed him right after he met the President and asked him if it was the most exciting day of his life. Troy said no, that his mother had taken him to Baltimore and he'd met the players. This is a wonderful woman who never complains about her life but who deserves special recognition.
