Stick It In Your Queue: Starship Troopers

Today I’m starting a weekly feature called “Stick It In Your Queue” to highlight DVDs of TV shows and movies I think you’d like to watch. I use Netflix — and I’ll link there for you — but you can find these shows lots of other places. For the most part they won’t be movies to watch with your kids. This is just for you when you get a little down-time and want to veg in front of the idiot box.

Oh, and if you’ve seen the featured show you can rate it by clicking one of the little stars!

Give it to me straight so I know what kind of stuff you guys like. If you hated it, give it zero stars. If you loved it, give it lots of stars. (I’m not sure if you’ll be able to vote if you’re reading this in a feed reader like Bloglines or Google Reader. Can you give it a try and let me know?)

so let’s go!

For this the virginal post, I’ve chosen one of my favorite mindless movies: 1997’s Starship Troopers! For campy, goofball lines like “Come on you apes, you wanna live forever?” this is your movie.

Based on a 1959 story by Robert A. Heinlein, it’s your classic good vs. evil flick. You get cheesy alien bug villains, dramatic love stories, and over-the-top futuristic military Rah Rah. At various points the events are punctuated by news bulletins which bear a striking resemblance to the FOX NEWS ALERTs of today. Well, except these are humorous and fictional.

Yes. That was Doogie Howser. Yes. He did say “Here’s a tip: aim for the nerve stem and put it down for good.”

Great brain-candy for the end of the week when you can’t handle one more thing making demands on your intellect. Check out this fantastic bug shoot-em-up and let me know what you think.

Don’t like Science Fiction? No problem, come back next week for romance and love for adults with brains :)

We rented this last week and LOVED it.

I love the cheesy alien bugs. That is the best thing in the movie!

Is it bad of me to say that the only part of the movie I liked was when Denise Richards was hurt in the shoulder?

Love it, love it, love it! In a similar vein (ok, not really, but sort of cheesy stuff that’s a lot better than it was marketed to be and actually has a fun quirky smart message to it) have you seen the Josie and the Pussycats remake? “Orange is the new pink.”

I gave it an Ok..It seems like for a while they played it over and over on USA or TBS.

/I tried to do the rating in google reader and it opened up the page to vote so I think it worked.

what a great idea! voting in my reader (IE 7) didn’t seem to work. But that’s ok, I don’t mind clicking in. And I LOVE hello insomnia’s comment… any movie where Denise Richard gets injured is ok by me!

I love SF mofies but I just never have liked this movie.

Bad acting poor lines that doesn’t worry me as I like Arnie movies like Predator, so I don’t really know why Starship Troopers sucks for me.

I’m just glad I’m not the only one who liked that movie. It’s very cheezy but still, it’s good cheesy.
