I have to say I'm glad to have read this. I've been wondering if The Clone Wars would be appropriate to get my four-year-old son, Isaac, for Christmas. He's the oldest child, but we've shown him parts of Episode IV (skipping through the rougher scenes) and he LOVES it. I thought it would be nice for him to have something that didn't need constant editing on our part.

I'm so glad you wrote this. We were planning on taking Aidan, he's 7 but debating over Riley (age 3).

Now I know he will probably love it too.

Thanks!

Maya, yes I figured as much. My kids don't watch that network because it has commercials and I'm a fuddy duddy, but after it's out on DVD we'll probably get it.

So glad you liked it!

Did you know that this movie is kind of like the jumping board for the animated star wars clone wars tv show on Cartoon Network? It should be out in September if I'm not mistaken (can you guess where I work- wink wink)

Mrs. S, it all depends on your expectations. If I had, for example, chosen this movie for a date night with just me and Craig I would have hated it. But my kids LOVED it and that was enough for me.

My only caution is to take them somewhere afterwards where they can run around like maniacs for a few hours. We took them to a 3pm show and they were up way past their bedtime with excitement. I think we're going to go again tomorrow, but see an 11am show and then go to a park!

Erika thank you for your review. I haven't taken my kids to see it yet because all I keep hearing are horrible reviews. I have a 10 year old boy, 5 year old boy, and 4 year old girl who acts like a boy (LOL). From the way your boys reacted, I'm saying I might change my mind and take them!!

Eden, I think I probably agree with you, but I haven't re-watched any of the original movies since I've had kids. I ordered #4 yesterday for Craig and I to watch first, and I suspect I'll end up letting the kids see it. It will blow their minds!

I agree about the core of #4 -- and that's what I liked about Clone Wars too. Certainly not a great movie, but there was no violence just for the sake of it. It was all about good and evil.

My kids have seen episodes 4, 5 & 6 many times. There's no "shown" violence in #4 that I can think of. there's an awful lot of story and action and they like that one. They also like #6 for reasons I can't explain (okay, it's the Ewoks). #5 they could take or leave but they like parts of it. We talked about what happens to Luke when he battles Vader in the cloud city and when they play "lightsaber," they tend to aim for the hand.

As for #1, #2 & #3, we don't watch #3 all the way through. The kids like #1 for reasons I can't explain (okay, Jar-Jar). #2 is a little too much confusion of story for them to follow and #3 is a little too dark for them to get into it and since I don't let them watch the scene on Mustafar, they don't like that one b/c it's incomplete. But of all 6 SW films, I would most allow them to watch #4 (#6 has laser blasts, speeder bike crashes, etc.).

Besides #4 is, at its core, about good triumphing over evil and the value of friendship. Think of it that way ;)
