Teh Internet, I don't understand all of her…

As much as I fancy myself a geek, there are still some things about the blogging world that I don’t understand.

1. What is a blog carnival?

I am so clueless here that the first time wrote this as “festival.” I don’t understand what you do to participate, who organizes them… Pretty much everything.

2. Second life

It is no secret that SL confuses me. I don’t understand any of it. I guess I also don’t get the appeal. What do you do in there??

3. People who mess with me

I think the blog exchange idea is cool. But why don’t they say at the top of the post “This is a blog exchange.” I’ll be happily reading along and suddenly I’m thinking, “Shit, I didn’t know they were getting divorced / lived in Louisiana / had eleven kids.” Stop messing with me ;)

I think that’s enough of an expose of my brain for today. I’m sorry I’m so dense. Try to love me in spite of my flaws!

Well I am happy to enlighten you on blog carnivals. Basically anyone can set up a blog carnival on a desired subject and people will send you articles related to that subject. Then you just post their articles on your blog and link back to their site and usually they will link to yours. It opens up subjects for discussion on your blog and widens your network.

Totally agree re: Second Life. I don’t get it, but I feel like I’m missing out. Story of my life.

Damn that second life crap. It just doesn’t make any sense to me either. And you have to use REAL money to buy stuff. WTF?

I am so so so so with you on blog carnivals and SL. Sl especially. I can barely handle my first life at the rate I am going. Yowza.

As for the blog exchange, the reason people don’t post that it’s a blog exchange upfront is that usually the rules say not to do so. Last time I hoped that posting that the next day was a blog exchange day might minimize confusion, but I think you are right. That rule is dumb.

Never heard of a blog carnival. Still not totally sure I know what a blog exchange is.

I saw a CBS Sunday Morning piece on Second Life. It struck me as sort of like the Sims. But the whole having to use real money business – I don’t get it.

Love blog carnivals, just haven’t done them lately. Do a quick search in google and you’ll come up with plenty of ideas.

second life i get…or am starting to get, and will get a hell of a lot more once i master actually walking with my poor little bruised avatar who keeps going through trees and such…i skipped all the video gaming that would have have helped me with that pesky hand-eye coordination thing. at least in SL, you can fly, so i haven’t destroyed myself yet.

it’s kind of like travelling…not nearly so organized as a game, but if you check out an area, there’s usually neat stuff going on. enterprise – lots of it sex-based, which entertains me since i really don’t get the idea of paying money to watch a cartoon strip – and even conferences and stuff.

maybe we should start an SL mommy blog world. hell, there probably is one. i just can’t find it cause i can’t move like a nice normal avatar and i keep tripping over myself!

The blog exchanges get me every time. I’ll be reading along and all of a sudden I have to stop and figure out who’s blog I’m actually reading.

Uh, I’ve never heard of Second Life. Thank jeebus for Google.

Second life…you mean we get two? Awesome, I have so many things I need to correct from the first one!

Blog exchange…another good thing. I’ve read so many other blogs that I think are better and I’d love to trade. That’s not how it works? What?
