Last Saturday night Mr.Plain and I were out on our weekly date night (I know!) and discussed our car situation. We’ve tried to figure out a way to have just one car again, but with kids and work it would be too difficult.
We currently have a mini van which I drive and a convertible which he drives. Unfair, yes, but the convertible used to be my car so I guess I have had my turn. Back before kids that is what I drove and Mr. Plain had a station wagon, but man have times changed. I now drive a big brick of a vehicle packed full of kid and dog.
Anyway, back to date night. We now own the convertible outright (pro), but any repairs are kind of pricey (con). Driving a convertible is way fun (pro) and that really trumps any other “con.” So after talking about this on and off over the course of at least a year, we decided to just keep the convertible and get a booster seat for the odd times we’ll need to share kindergarten pickup duty this year.
Oh, and we also decided that it was probably time to get new tires. Our current set is 7 years old and even though we don’t do much long-distance driving, it would probably be a good idea to bite the bullet and get a whole new set.
We went on to have a fantastic evening of margaritas, dinner and a great movie (“Knocked Up” go see it) and drove home. We had left the puppy at my dad’s house, since our 3 insane children are more than enough to keep the sitter busy, and a few blocks away from his house we suddenly noticed the street was really bumpy.
I said “Hey, change lanes for a second…” Hmmm, still bumpy in the other lane. Crap! Flat tire!
The fucking car heard us all the way from the parking garage.
My dad and step mom drove us home from our date — it was almost like high school, well except I didn’t have dates in high school.
So watch what you say around your cars this week. I have a feeling they’re all up to no good. At least mine aren’t.
