What do you know about the Safeguard 5-point Booster Seat?

My kids are getting big for their Britax Marathon car seats, and I’m still thinking about that video advising against standard booster seats. I know that there’s that Britax Regent which is a 5-point car seat for big kids, but do any of you have the Safeguard Booster?

Here’s the description of it:

The SafeGuard Go® is the first ever “hybrid” car seat, blending the safety of a 5-point harness with the portability of a backless booster. With versatility and portability like no other seat on the market, it is freedom at last for busy families. Lightweight and compact, the SafeGuard Go features a one-of-a-kind, flexible back, allowing the seat to fold easily away when not in use and fit into the convenient travel bag (included), making it a breeze to store, carry, or travel anywhere, even on a plane.

SAFETY FEATURES

Because it is made by SafeGuard, parents can rest assured that the SafeGuard Go has undergone the most thorough testing in the industry. In fact, the SafeGuard Go far surpasses all government safety standards and lets parents protect their children with a 5-point harness all the way up to 60lbs. And for children above 60 pounds, the SafeGuard Go easily converts to the first ever LATCH-equipped, belt-positioning booster.

I like that it is a LATCH booster, but the whole thing just seems maybe too new. Maybe not-ready-for-prime-time? I’m probably going to end up getting some Regents, but do any of you have this seat? It has so many options that my eyes have glazed over and I’m more confused than when I started.

I’m also looking for feedback on the safeguard. Looking to upgrade from our britax roundabout (my daughter is 3 1/2, 30lbs and 40″. Want the safety of the 5 point harness, but the britax regent is too big for our CRV (we can’t fit another seat next to it) and the radian 80 is uncomfortable due to the position of the buckle in the seat – any recommendations?

It sounds like a good product, but I haven’t heard enough about it’s safety testing to commit. Once they are 60lbs it’s still a booster (adult seatbelt) even though it has a latch. My priority is the 5pt harness until they are 80lbs. We decided to go with the Regent, just ordered 2 for my son (6yrs. 51 lbs.) and my daughter (5yrs. 45 lbs.). Britax has a proven safety record, does extensive testing and we have used the Roundabout and Marathon and were very happy with them!

I just ordered by 2nd safeguard booster for my husband’s car. It is wonderful and wonderfully safe. Also, they are very easy to install. I am a 100 lb. woman and had no problem.

if you look at the britax regents’ description carefully you can NOT use the latch up to 80 lbs. you have to use the vehicles seat belt. yes, the child uses the 5-point harness still but you can’t use the latch system anymore. just a thought….

That’s a limitation of the car, not the seat. All cars have a weight limit for the use of the LATCH tethers, so you just need to check your manual.

FYI…Even though you can’t use the LATCH system, you CAN us the TETHER STRAP. The latch is the one in the seats, the tether is the one the hooks from the top of the carseat to the floor board. Just wanted to make sure everyone understood the difference. BTW, my kids (6 & 4 yrs) LOVE their Regents! They are very comfortable. I will admit it is an inconvenience because we can not easily access our back row of seats (Honda Pilot), but it is sooo worth it to know that we are doing all that we can to keep our kids safe! Take care.

i have been searching for a car seat that would work for my 48 pound child. i came across the safeguard and thought about purchasing one on ebay for 179.00 free shipping. however upon doing more research, i found that the tether strap may not work in my 2001 truck. the tether starp must be used inorder to use the 5 pt horness. i’m glad i did a lil more research on the safeguard b4 making a purchase. actually i came across this page upon researching and found out that the britax regent may help us.

I just left Shannon a message and was wondering if anyone else knows the potential problems with the tether system and the truck regarding the SafeGuard. Also, has anyone heard of the Apex by Safety First?
