Why I love Saturday night

May 19, 2008 24 Comments

We’ve got an amazing sitter who comes every Saturday night from 6-11pm. He’s a great guy who has been a preschool teacher for decades, and each of our kids was in his class when they were about 2. It is a huge extravagance, but it is worth it for us to be able to walk out the door, not worry for one second about our kids, and spend time together as grownups.

I thought you might enjoy seeing what a typical night out is like for us. It contains food, drinks, a movie, grocery shopping, a little TMI, politics and more! I know, sounds great right? :)

The only part of the evening I had to leave out was the restaurant we went to right before going home — the battery died as we walked in the door! The rest is there in it’s “glory” — I’ll let you be the judge.

I think that’s a terrific idea, having a regular sitter appointment…you must look forward to 6 pm on Saturdays like nobody’s business!

I’m very impressed with the weekly babysitter. I feel like I’ve been missing out. I’ll have to start researching how to set up a deal like that.

You crack me up! I’m sure I have better things to do than watch your videos all morning…I just can’t think of any.

No, wait, just thought of one, I need to call AAA to get my car jumped after one of my boys left his door open all weekend.

Love it. We haven’t had a date in years. You’re so smart to go out every week.

we’ve taken to going to the farmer’s market on Saturday mornings w/o kids. We’re not gone long and it is soo nice to just hang out with the snap peas for awhile.

I loved this too. Especially the sleepy kids. :) That’s pretty much what a date night for us looks like (grocery store included), however, we really need to get out more often. Usually only happens a few times a year.

The wind blowing through your hair made me wish summer would get her on the east coast, already; the margaritas made my mouth water and the SIZE of the palm trees really blow my mind! Even food shopping can be fun. I enjoyed date night, a whole lot, thankyouvermuch!

PunditMom, I heart our convertible so very much. It is paid off and from before we had kids. It would be pretty hard to justify otherwise ;)

Plus — it has booster seats in the back!

That idea is GENIUS. I’ve found it helps me spend more quality time with Edan when our time apart is scheduled like that — I’m not always trying to cram in little tasks when she’s around, because I know I’ll have time for them later.

I’m not sure if it’s total insanity or pure genius to videotape your date night to put on your blog. I think my husband would have nixed the idea if it were me. Enjoy many more Saturday nights out. I envy you.

My son and I sat and watched the vid. My broadband connection is a bit slow at home so I had to play the whole lot with sound turned down before we could watch it uninterrupted. I love how your son woke up and said ‘help’ when you got home.

I’m ROFL about you waking up the kids with your “infernal talking” — wondering if years from now they are going to be talking in therapy about Mom stalking them in their sleep?! LOL!

Okay, geeky questions: what kind of video camera and what editing software?

    Loving this new feature!

    JJK, oh almost certainly!

And I use iMovie to make the movies, but I’m considering something else — suggestions welcome.

You're so cute. But I admit I thought you were driving when you first started videoing. I was glad to see your hot man in the driver's seat.

A girlfriend of mine pumps her breastmilk while she drives. She hoists it up under the steering wheel and pumps away. One time she got pulled over and the cop was too embarrased to give her a ticket.
