I was up a million times last night (kids, cat, battery beeping on cell phone…) and am completely wiped today. In lieu of anything meaningful, I’m going to ask you all a question I’ve wondered about for a long time.
Why are people up in arms about kids eating yogurt from a tube? We buy an organic brand with normal ingredients and Henry loves it. I *love* the person who invented it because it means Henry can have yogurt in his lunchbox and manage to eat it within the allotted 2 minute lunch period.
If you’re one of the folks who thinks yogurt in a tube is the work of the devil, let me know why because I don’t get it.
Otherwise you can just wish me a happy birthday or give me some tips for staying awake today. Did I mention I gave up caffeine about a month ago? Yeah, I’m going to be real functional today.

And I've resorted to buying Spongebob ones now that they are so addicted to that show. I like to use them as coolpacks too, so no arguement here, although I take the ignorant view of whether they can open them – they do come home empty :) Brings back memories of making my great suggestion of freezing them, only to to find I was pretty much the last to know :)
So for three weeks I'm giving up alcohol, meat, dairy and sugar – but still have my coffee :)
And Happy Birthday!!

My son can't do yogurt in a tube because he is allergic to milk. He does eat soy yogurt in cups though. His "favorite" way to eat that is to jam a straw through the foil covering on the yogurt cup and to suck up the yogurt like it's a thick shake. He learned this from other kids at school. This might be a little difficult with yogurts containing real fruit chunks though.

Sorry about the caffeine…you're a braver woman than I. And the yogurt thing? It's just another issue for the Sanctimommies (Trademark Mom101) to debate. Jamies right, if they don't get their panties in a wad about something, they start to worry.

(I've never heard of this dislike for the tubes. I just don't buy them because I am cheap.)

Never thought that they were from the devil? Maybe its the additional packaging? I love them for my kid.
Anyway, did you notice any positive things from quitting caffine? I did for about 10 days and all I noticed was my missing my morning routine of a nice, hot, sweet coffee to pry my eyes open. I started drinking green and herbal teas, but there is no replacing coffee.

Happy Birthday! It’s my father-in-law’s birthday too.
People don’t dig on the yogurt-in-a-tube thing, huh? I think they suck. But only because I have the world’s most uncoordinated children, who just can’t seem to FIGURE OUT how they work, and we end up with Go-Gurt everywhere. Freezing them helps that, though! (The Go-Gurt, not the children.)

Yogurt in tubes, they are the shizznizzle. I have not heard anything about them being evil. The only reason I don’t buy them more is because of the cost. When getting three kids lunches…I have to be pretty frugal.
Another tip, throw them in the freezer…..the kids love the frozen yogurt….and it is just like a Freezie.

Why are people up in arms over yogurt in a tube. I give it to my kid…does this mean I'm a bad parent?
Whatever…
Happy Birthday!!! Stop punishing yourself with the no caffeine, unless of course your doctor told you to so.
Happy birthday!
As to the yogurt in a tube, if people don’t like it, they don’t have to buy it. I feel like buying some in protest. I got some for my kids but they didn’t get the concept.

I don’t like them from a teacher’s point of view. Imagine have 25-35 kids all trying to get these yogurt tubes open. Then imagine the number of times you are asked for help. Then imagine the kids who really need help getting them open and the mess that ensues. That is why I dislike them. The only thing I hated more when I was teaching is those fruit cocktails with the extra liquid and popable metal lids. Hate!

Happy Birthday!! Hope you can get through it okay…re: the yogurt tubes…I have no idea. My kids would never touch the stuff. (Me either! Shhhh!)
Gwen, I’ve made sure Henry can open his own since he was in preschool (he’s now in first grade), but I feel your pain!
Jennifer, the biggest thing I’ve noticed since quitting caffeine is that I’m much less anxious all the time and I’m a MUCH more patient mom. I drink decaf in the morning which almost feels the same as my treasured real coffee. But not quite. It’s a real trade-off.
I didn't know anyone was up in arms about it? But here's a tip, we freeze ours. Kids think they're eating ice cream.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! :)

As for yogurt in a tube, I’m a leetle grossed out by the sucking-on-plastic concept, and yet I buy it and put it in CJ’s lunch each day. What can I say, it makes him happy = it makes me happy.
Which reminds me,
HAPPY birthday!

Happy Birthday!! It’s so good for you to stop with the coffee!! I did a few years ago. After having the Kid, I started with green and sometimes oolong teas, from lack of sleep. Regular coffee makes me snippy, to put it nicely…
Have a fudge sundae instead! With a candle in it! :D

Dude, what’s up with the yogurt. Are people upset about this? i don’t get it. Yogurt is yogurt right. No matter how you eat it, right? that’s silly. Good luck with the no caffeine thing.

I’m all about yogurt in a tube. I have about three boxes in the fridge as we speak. My son loves them, and it’s easier for him to open and much cleaner! I didn’t know there was a scandal going on about it.

I believe the issues with yogurt in the tube are these:
1. The packaging isn’t recyclable.
2. The sugar content is higher, and the calcium content lower, than that of regular yogurt.
From http://www.realsimple.com/realsimple/content/food/0,21770,696266,00.html
KID TUBES: They’re portable, they don’t require a spoon, and they come in small, kid-friendly portions. So how do they rate nutritionally? Ounce for ounce, most tube yogurts carry a bit more sugar and a bit less calcium than ordinary yogurts. Still, they’re significantly ahead of soda and candy if you’re looking for a nutritious on-the-go snack. Another positive feature: Tubes can be put in the freezer and disguised as ice pops.
Happy birthday!
And I had no idea there was a raging national debate about yogurt in a tube. I don’t often buy it because Carson makes a mess with it, but it’s not like I have some deep seeded hatred for it.
Busymom — I’m sure of it!

There's a big deal about tube yogurt, eh? I never knew that. I would have figured that the real issue would be the contents of the tube. We buy Horizon as well and love it. The kids love it frozen in the summer and we usually put it in their lunches frozen then they are nice and icy cold still at lunch time! :)
Personally, I'm more to be up in arms over the sick amount of sugar and chemical cr@p that is in the "other" brands.

The only thing I’m against yogurt-wise is blue yogurt for kids still young enough to eat in a high chair, because it ends up all over the walls and somewhere on my blog I have a picture of that very thing, which is precious now, but was a pain in the ass at the time.
But that was MANY years ago so now I give thanks that they’re eating yogurt and not Skittles or marijuana.

We love us some tube-y yogurt. Even the craptastic kind with evil HFCS, because I get lazy sometimes. I was thinking coffee might help me be not so lazy. Most weeks I have one Starbucks 1/2 caf mocha, but feel I could be so much more productive with a cuppa homemade Joe each morning.

I hate the artificial color and the high sugar. But thank God for Costco, they just started selling Gogurt that is low fat and no artificial colors. I’m a new convert, as of last week! Hurray!

I hate them personally because they're so messy! My kids can not just squeeze a little and eat. They squeeze it all out and it goes everywhere. Total pain!

Happy birthday!! I think yogurt in a tube is a gift from God. Both of my boys love love love yogurt and the tube is about the only way they can scarf it down for lunch.
I am a teacher, and don’t mind the yogurt in a tube. The 3 and 4 year olds have some trouble opening them, but that’s alright. What I HATE are the FIZZY yogurt in a tube because no matter WHO opens them, they go EVERYWHERE. Pleaase don’t send those to school, lol!!!! :)
Opening them is half the fun. We subsist on yogurt in a tube. Usually Stoneyfield, because Horizon is hard to find around here. My only problem with them is how fast my kid eat them. "Can I have another one? Can I have another one?" I learned that if I freeze them, they last longer because they must be eaten slower. And they're less messy that way as well. Bonus.
Being a teacher who pulls “lunch bunch” duty, i love these little things. It makes it so much easier for the kiddos.

Is there something going on beyond my snarky "there's yogurt in a tube in my house, hell has frozen over" tweet?
Yes, I'm on record as hating yogurt in a tube. Reasons include:
1. I hate finding the snipped-off ends on my floor.
2. It apparently cannot be eaten without slurping noises.
3. I'm still finding splotches of blue Fizzix (thanks to my MIL who bought it) in my car and on my diaper bag.
I'm a real minimalist where it comes to kids' snacks though. With the exceptions of Goldfish, string cheese, and Yoplait Kids, I won't buy it if I won't eat it myself.
Happy (now belated) birthday!
I'm all for yogurt in a tube. Didn't know there was a dissenting faction …

Really? We're supposed to hate them? But it doesn't require a spoon. I find that just lovely. My three year old can have one on the way to preschool on those mornings when we're running late (um… ok… EVERYDAY!).

Ummm. Yogurt in a tube is brilliant. Now I can feed my boys yogurt and be on the go. No need to worry about the spoon or them dripping as they scoop from the yogurt cup to their mouths.
